Whether it’s for slalom, downriver, freestyle or creeking, every single French paddler knows the rivers of the Southern Alps. When I was a kid I paddled quite a lot in the area and this place will always be close to my heart. I have got tons of good memories somehow related to the area and its rivers. I did some awesome kid’s camps with Nico Chassing and Deb Pinniger, they taught me most of the things I know about river running and took me on my first legit class IV rivers. I raced some of my first freestyle competitions there, at the mighty Rabioux wave. I went on spring break trips with my dad and his old paddling friends. And I also went for training camps with my kayak club, and raced slalom at the Argentière course.

This year the French Slalom Championships were held at L’Argentière. The water levels at the course were pretty good but after 3 weeks racing Slalom World cups , I had had enough of racing. So I just decided not to focus on slalom and to go creeking as often as possible. On the quailfication day, I managed to throw a good first run and then went creaking with Nico Chassing instead of racing  the second run in the afternoon.

In the end I didn’t do very well in the French slalom Championships and placed 5th, but I think I still won. I decided to do what would make me happier. And paddling some of my favorite french river runs were worth not getting a medal.
