Christmas in Zambia
After our small expedition, our good friend Jano was already waiting for us at the campsite. We were awfully tired and we did not even want to go kayaking, but since Jano had just arrived, we sacrificed ourselves and took him over to the Zambezi rapids. Water is still rising, so slowly but steadily all rapids are changing. Some of the other holes are disappearing and some of them are getting much bigger.
On the next day we expressly did not want to kayak the rapids, so we went to watch the Victoria waterfalls from the bottom. As we tried to climb a rock we heard Capko and Snorchel screaming at us that there was a crocodile. Nina and I started to paddle to the water stream hoping that it wouldn’t follow us. After paddling for a while we saw the croc and realized that it was only a tiny crocodile and that it was probably more afraid of us than we were of him. That happens from time to time that a small crocodile falls over the edge of the waterfall and survives, so there are few crocodiles in the first river section.
Our plan was to kayak rapid no. 2 and surf there for a while. The water level is very high so it is not easy to get into the waves. It was a cool day anyway… The next day we planned to go back to the waterfalls, but this time see it from above.
After a little tour on the waterfalls Nina and I bought our Christmas gift which was bungee jump. Jumping down from the bridge over the Zambezi River from a height of 110 m above the water. I have to say that it was an impressive experience.
On Christmas day, we decided to grill large salmon for dinner. Šnorchel is a specialist when it comes to grilling fish and we fixed a perfect dinner. We enjoy this holiday as much as we could, maybe it was even better than at home.
Next day we kayaked on the rapids, mostly 1-10. Although it was essentially the same thing, we were always surprised with something new, since the water level was still rising.
Today we had a day off and started planning our safari trip to Botswana.
