14th Kayak Filmfestival 2011
Every year in February Europe’s most prominent kayak film festival attracts hundreds of paddlers from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland to Rosenheim.
Over the years the festival including its after party has developed itself to THE meeting point for insiders during the winter season. This year the festival tour also stopped in Unna and Speyer. As always festival chief, Olaf Obsommer, has taken care of a good mix of international strips. The newcomer stars were Anton Immler with the Duo Topo descent on the Intanda Falls in Uganda, Stéphane Pion with an action-packed movie from France to Siberia and Benjamin Hjort with a black and white meditation of the Stikine.
The pro squad was represented by Steve and Dave Fisher, Jared Meehan and Anson Fogel. The Fisher Brothers from South Africa engaged the audience with a spectacular travel drama from Iceland and Northern Norway, which expresses very well the imponderabilities of each kayak expedition. Jared Meehan took the audience along his trip of the Altai Mountains, where the international paddle crew bestowed honor to the “Book of Legends“. Last but not least Anson Fogel allows a variety of paddlers to talk about the sport from their point of view. In between these very emotional interviews paddle scenes of the North Fork of Payette in North America were shown on screen.
The jury of the night freestyle world champion Olli Grau, media expert Sonja Güldner-Hamel and festival founder Hans Mayer had a very challenging task.
In the end Stéphane Pion took the lead in the category newcomers. Anson Fogel won the title “Best Film 2011“ and looked forward to a pro tripod from Panther. Everything went smooth without waiting time. A number of interviews with representatives of the German Kanu-Association (the DKV suddenly offered the sponsorship of the festival 2012) as well as slalom world champion Jasmin Schirnberg and Fabian Dörfler showed interesting insights into the world of kayaking.
A real audience cracker was the communal project of KANU-readers “Aufgemischt“. A lot scenes had been collected, professionally edited. “Aufgemischt” celebrated its premiere on Saturday night.
And don´t forget the Party……
Big Thanks to ALL
